Today is the
Monday after the long Thanksgiving Day weekend and this is the day that many of
you go back to work and to many this would be called Black Monday. They really enjoyed the time off and they
just don’t want to go back to work. Do
you feel that way?
Mark quotes
Martin Luther King who says something very meaningful about our work. He says, “If a man is called to be a street
sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven
composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well
that all the hosts of heaven will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street
sweeper who did his job well.’”
We are
headed into the celebration of Christ’s birth.
Every birthday people who are friends or family of the person whose bd
it is usually give them gifts. Christ’s
bd is a celebration of the gifts he has given us and one of his greatest gifts he
has given you is your job. So one of
your gifts to him could be to do the best you can do in your job. Be thankful for it, yes, but then do the best
you can do so he looks good.
Mark says, “I know a great street sweeper. Her name is Val, and she is a custodian who
cleans like it’s nobody’s business but God’s. She inscribed SDG on her mop
handle, just like Johann Sebastian Bach did on his symphonies. It stands for
Soli Deo Gloria. It’s a reminder that she cleans for the glory of God.”
So how is
your job going today?
