Now James deals with the fact
that love never fails to conquer skepticism.
He explains what he means.
He says, “Inside the safe
haven of home, painful actions take place. Each of us sometimes takes advantage
of that security by exercising shameful humanness. Like no one else, other
family members disappoint you. They do something foolish, something wicked,
something awful, or something hurtful. In those moments, you want to sell. Sell
everything now. Sell!”
He goes on, “But love does
not sell out. Love does not bail in the crisis. And love is not skeptical. Love
is not ‘You talk a good game, but you’ll never be . . .’ But love is believing
the best in the person. Love is waiting for God’s agenda to be accomplished in
that person’s life. Love holds on. Love is being used by God to transform that
person.”
He then says, “When I choose
not to love, I’m in God’s way. When I choose to love, God is helping me, and
I’m part of the solution. Love isn’t skeptical.”
I’m sure glad that my family
hasn’t bailed on me and I’m glad that I haven’t bailed on them. I have chosen to love my family.
So how are you doing in this
area?
