"Not being controlled by our feelings means that we can face our fears, get out of our comfort zone, and try new things."
A thought by John C. Maxwell (2013-10-08) from his book, Sometimes You Win--Sometimes You Learn:Life's Greatest Lessons Are Gained from Our Losses (p. 81). Center Street.

Are you controlled by your feelings or do you control your
feelings?
Maybe you got up this morning with some despair about having
to go to work. You’ve been on holiday
break and you just don’t feel like going.
If you let that feeling control you and you reinforce it by saying it
over and over then you are not going to have an enjoyable day and you may have trouble
facing some of the situations that are going to be at work.
Now if you wake up and get out of bed with the attitude that
you love your life and you are looking forward to the adventure of your new
day, your new week then you will be prepared emotionally to handle whatever is
ahead. You have focused your feelings
for success.
Life is tough but being controlled by your feelings can make
it tougher. This New Year is going to have
some tough spots in it like the Old Year you just lived. Many don’t like new things and they don’t
realize the possibilities because they are afraid of new things. But if you love life you will see the excitement
of a new opportunity to live a New Year with the slate clean.
How about not being controlled by your feelings and face your
fears, get out of your comfort zone, and try new things. This can be the best year of your life. It’s a New Year, a new opportunity, a new
adventure. Believe it and go for it.
So what are you going to do?
