It is so important.
John says, "Busyness is not satisfying. A life of purpose is. It can be deeply satisfying to be part of something larger than yourself. Most people are looking for a way to be involved in something they’re passionate about that they can do with other like-minded people. They want to be a part of a story that allows them to express their deepest desires and highest aspirations. They want to create memories doing something memorable. Why else would people wear colored bracelets identifying a cause, dress in pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get doused for the Ice-Bucket Challenge, or give to organizations they believe in? When enough people who share the same values follow their desires to make a difference and join to do it together, a movement is born.
He continues, "There is another reason people rally around a cause, but this is the part people rarely talk about. We want to think that when others join a cause, it’s because the cause is compelling, important, and justified. While it’s true that these are the motivation for some, most people desire a personal return on their time and effort. That immediate return is often how good we feel for wanting to add value to others. This is the start of the significance journey. We give. And the longer we stay on this giving path, the more we realize that helping others helps us.
"I call this process the Inevitable Return. Give to others long enough, and we receive more than we give. Love people deeply enough, and love returns to us tenfold. Lift people up, and we get lifted even higher.
He later says "People want to join a movement that includes connecting with others and being part of a community doing something bigger than themselves. And they are rewarded for their efforts by gaining personal identity and recognition. Rob and I desire that for you. We want Change Your World to be a resource that helps you become part of a transformational movement. For this to happen, we all need to get on the same page. Let’s all be part of the movement to make a difference."
