A thought by Ed Young, from his book, The Fear Virus: Vaccinating Yourself Against Life's Greatest Phobias (p.34). Creality Publishing. Kindle Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.)
That makes sense, doesn't it?
Ed says, “Have you ever tried to move the steering wheel of a car that is not moving? The friction of the rubber against the pavement resists the guidance from the steering wheel. On the other hand, when the vehicle is in motion, you can steer the car with your pinkie finger. I wouldn’t recommend this as a rule, but you can do it. Vehicles were designed to be steered on the go. ”
He goes on, “Likewise, people were created by God to be guided on the move as He often illuminates one step at a time. I wrote earlier of how Proverbs 3:5-6 has been a guiding verse for my family. It promises that God will make our paths straight if we trust Him one step at a time. Another one of my favorite passages in Scripture is Psalms 119:105, ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.’ One reason I like this verse so much is the word picture it gives of walking along a path guided by a lamp or lantern. If you’ve ever done this, you know that a lantern does not provide much forward light. It illuminates the area right around you, providing enough light to see one or two steps ahead. If we focus on the darkness and the things we cannot see, fear will definitely consume us; but if we focus on the light and the next step, it will bring us peace. This is a picture of someone who walks with the Lord. This is a person who trusts Christ to shine the light of His Word just far enough for the next step. It would be easy if we had a detailed itinerary of future events. But He tells us just enough so we can trust Him with the future. We know the path will eventually take us home, but in the meantime, we have to follow the path each day just as far as God’s light will shows us.”
So, let's keep following the path just as far as God's light shows, okay?
Yes, yes!
