A thought by Ray Johnston (2014-05-13) from his book, The Hope Quotient: Measure It. Raise It. You'll Never Be the Same. (p.82). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition. (Click on the title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.)
Ray says, “I once heard Chuck Swindoll describe a conversation with a college student. He asked the young man what was meant to be a profound question: ‘Where are you headed?’ ‘To lunch,’ the kid said. For a lot of people, that’s the whole dream.”
Ray says, “Not having a dream results in three unhealthy emotions: frustration, boredom, and regret.”
He goes on, “Frustration because if you don’t set goals, you move through life from crisis to crisis. Without a dream for your life, you’re a reactor, not an actor. Boredom, because you have nothing to shoot for and nothing powerful to capture your interest. Without a dream, you move from diversion to diversion, and they all get old sooner rather than later. Regret, because you will tend to say, ‘If only I’d done this’ or ‘If only I’d done that.’ That’s tragic because we all have the freedom to choose.”
You don’t have to live with frustration, boredom or regret. God has a dream that He has created just for you.
Ray says, “People with a God-inspired dream know where they’re headed, because the Word of God, the Spirit inside them, and the believers they trust all point them in the same direction. How do you know if the dream inside you really comes from God? The answer to that question would take a whole book to unpack, but three good questions can reveal a lot: 1. Is this dream God-honoring? 2. Will this dream change lives and influence people? 3. Does this dream resonate with godly, visionary people?”
