“I am convinced that nearly anyone can learn to connect with others.”

When I was a kid, I wanted to connect with my parents, not just because I loved them but also because I suspected that if I had a good connection with my mother, it might keep me from getting a spanking when I misbehaved.” He continues, “I had a lot of ambition and clear goals during college and the early years of my professional life, but my inability to connect with people was a barrier to my success. ” He goes on, “Are you familiar with the Serenity Prayer made famous by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr and adopted by many twelve-step programs? It says, God, grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and

“Have you ever thought about why you react the way you do when you get disconnected?”

So why does it frustrate you? John says, “Being disconnected wastes your time. It interrupts the flow of what you’re trying to accomplish, and it undermines your productivity. The bottom line is that connecting is everything when it comes to communication. “You know when you don’t have a good connection on the phone, but how about when you’re communicating with people in person? Do you know when a connection has been made? Can you tell when the connection is starting to go bad? Can you identify when the ‘call’ has been dropped?” He goes on, “Most people have an easy time knowing when the connection is good on the phone.
