A thought by Mark Batterson from his
book, Double Blessing (p. 31). The Crown Publishing Group. Kindle
Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.)
He really does!
The whole paragraph says, “If your
goal is to multiply sales for selfish purposes, God won’t bless it. But if your
motives are pure, God has blessings in categories you cannot conceive of. Does
the multiplication anointing need to be coupled with a work ethic? Absolutely!
God doesn’t bless lack of effort any more than lack of integrity. If you want
the umbrella blessing, you have to break a sweat and burn some calories. You
might even lose a little sleep! I can tell you this: writing a book requires me
to set my alarm very early in the morning. I’m up and at it before the sun
rises. During my writing season, it’s long days that are mentally, emotionally,
and spiritually exhausting. But the blessing of God means that the whole is
greater than the sum of the parts. Why? Because God multiplies our efforts with
His anointing!”
Mark goes on, “The umbrella blessing
makes this promise: ‘The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit
of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground.’
(Deuteronomy 28:11) Since multiplication
is one of the overarching storylines of Scripture, it shouldn’t come as a
surprise that it’s the subplot of this umbrella blessing. Simply put, the
blessing of God is a multiplication anointing.
“What does God want to multiply?
Anything that is good or right or pure or just. He wants to multiply the gifts
of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit. He wants to multiply your time,
talent, and treasure for His glory and for your good. But what God does for us
is never just for us! God wants to bless your family to the third and fourth
generations. He wants to multiply His blessing on your life so it spills over
onto your neighbors and coworkers.”
Mark then says, “We think right here,
right now. But God is thinking nations and generations! And I promise you this:
His vision for your life
is bigger and better than yours!
That’s what the umbrella blessing is all about. And that multiplication
anointing is yours for the asking!”
Now that is really good news, isn’t
it?
