A
thought by Steven Furtick, (2016-03-01) from his book, (UN)Qualified: How God Uses Broken People to Do Big Things (p.
167). The Crown Publishing Group. Kindle Edition. (Click on the title of the book

Steven says,
“We influence it greatly, but we don’t control it."
He goes on,
“Think about it. We don’t determine the place of our birth. We don’t
single-handedly run the economy or governments in those places. We can’t stop
natural disasters. We can’t predict the decisions of people around us. We can’t
guarantee our good health. We don’t know the day we will die. But God does all
those things and more. We can’t go more than a few hours without rest and
sleep, but the universe doesn’t fall apart while we are curled up under the
covers. God is still there, guiding, protecting, and watching over our tiny,
finite selves. He must get a good laugh out of the size of our egos sometimes.”
I love Psalm
121:1- 8. It says, “I lift up my eyes to
the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the
Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over
you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber
nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right
hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will
keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over
your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
Steven goes
on to say, “Our sense of identity and value must take God into account. If we
don’t, we usually end up vacillating between delusions of grandeur and the
depths of despair. One minute we are superheroes; the next minute we are waving
a white flag. Consider this: we are never so awesome that success is
inevitable, and we are never so terrible that success is impossible. In both
our strengths and weaknesses, God makes the difference. Our successes come from
his blessings. We can’t take all the credit. We aren’t smart enough or strong
enough to achieve all of that on our own.”
That is a
great thing to realize and live by isn’t it?
