I love
baseball. Today is the Dodgers, my
favorite team’s home opener. I love it.
Back when my
son Brett played baseball in Pony Ball there were these kids who physically had
matured before the other kids. And they
were the best players. The problem was
for them they felt they would always be the best so they didn’t work as hard
and later as some of those who weren’t as big did all they could to learn and
grow better they eventually passed those other kids. They knew they hadn’t arrived yet and they
knew they would always have to keep at becoming better.
And that can
happen relationally. We find that person
and we have that exciting day where we have that big wedding and we believed we
have arrived. Now you can run on the romance for
awhile but if you don’t do what you need to do to grow together then you could eventually
grow apart. There is a process.
And that is
also true in our relationship with Christ.
Steven says, “The Christian walk is not a finish line. It’s not a goal
or an achievement. It’s an ongoing relationship with Jesus. It’s a progression
of growing and changing, of embracing and replacing, of listening to God’s
voice and living out who he says we are. It’s a process, and it will last the
rest of our lives. Following Jesus is an ongoing, ever-evolving experience. And
the sooner we realize that and accept it, the more we’ll enjoy the journey.”
So how are
you enjoying the journey?
