“He makes promises about life, and then he expects us to do our part and not be lazy.”

Look at this verse from Hebrews 6:12, “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” Henry says, “I love this verse. It gives one more example of the created order, the way God set up the universe. He makes promises about life, and then he expects us to do our part and not be lazy. He promised the children of Israel a ‘promised land,’ but they had to go and possess it. They had to fight a lot of battles to get there. And, little by little, they did. ‘Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.’ God has promised you abundant life, but he has not promised you an abundant life with no effort. “Happy people engage life and pursue their dreams.”

Henry says, “My experience has been that when people get a wake-up call about their level of happiness in life, their first realization is that they are responsible for their own happiness, and their second realization is that they will need to pursue certain activities. I have seen many people who, having been stuck for years, finally ‘get it,’ wake up and say, ‘I do not have to live like this. I am going to do something about my life.’ Then they get busy, and a year later, I hardly recognize them. “But for that to happen, you have to find the ‘push.’ You have to overcome the entropy and lack of movement that has dominated you for so long. You have to ‘do something.’ So how will you do that?” He goe

“God has actually hooked your brain up in a way that makes you feel good when you give.”

Henry says, “. . . we are wired for a happy life—sometimes we just have to learn what that happy life looks like. “While there may be some activities in life that are in question, giving to others is not one of them. Showing acts of kindness and being altruistic are not activities we have to wonder about. If you want to increase your happiness, spend some of your heart, mind, and soul—even your money—on others. Research has shown that when people spend money on others or on charity versus themselves, the money spent on others is the money that returns happiness. Giving actually makes people happier than spending money on themselves.  Giving to others makes you healthier as well as happier. It is good for yo

“Moment by moment, day by day, year by year, decade by decade, choices create a direction.”

A thought by Henry Cloud, from his book, The Law of Happiness: How Spiritual Wisdom and Modern Science Can Change Your Life (The Secret Things of God) (p. 12). Howard Books. Kindle Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.) They do, they really do. Henry goes on, “Or deciding on a direction will dictate each choice. And that direction of how we invest our lives is under our control. We all have the choice to invest ourselves in living in ways that produce happiness or continuing down a road that experience and science has shown will never fulfill us. “But it does bring up a question. If spending all of our time pursuing the 10 percent (as if it is going to be the key to happiness) does not work, then why in the world do we do it? Why do we think that ‘if I only had . . . then I would be  happy?’” He later says, “When we are not eating the fruits of the good life that God has created and think that we know what is going to satisfy us
