"When a soul lives off the faded splendors of the past, it is sinking into itself and not rising to God’s occasions."
A thought by Leonard Sweet, (2014-02-21) from his book, The Well-Played Life: Why Pleasing God Doesn't Have to Be Such Hard Work (p. 29). Tyndale Momentum. Kindle Edition.
I have been
spending some time in searching out this matter of living and making a
difference at this point in my life.
During this time, my wife, Margaret and I have had some interesting
conversations. And during this time I found
this book by Leonard Sweet. It has been
a God find.
There is a
danger in looking at one’s life from the perspective of being at the end of one’s
true effectiveness or living off the
faded splendors of the past but Leonard gave this thought about rising to God’s occasions. He said, “Have you considered the
possibilities? Has the church? The question now at age sixty is not, ‘Where
should I start on my bucket list?’ or, ‘How do I best set things in order?’ or,
‘Where do I rock?’ but, ‘What should I do with the best years of my life?’ ‘How
can my life be pleasing to God during this Third Age?’ ‘How can I live in God’s
grace and pleasure?’ ‘How can I honor this unexpected gift?’ ‘What does Godplay
mean in terms of eighty to one-hundred-plus years of life?’”
The key it
seems to be in any searching is in asking the right questions. And the question Leonard brings up for someone who is 65+, the question, “What should I do with
the best years of my life?” and another one is, “How can I honor this unexpected gift?” gives
life now a new perspective.
I am still
very healthy both physically and emotionally and I have a view of life through experience
that can make this the best years of my life.
I just live now with a new perspective.
Leonard
says, “In the Third Age of life (60– 90), the questions become, ‘How can I
become a master player and world changer?’ ‘How can I be a coach to others in
Godplay?’ ‘How can I be a healing presence for Christ in the world?’ Third
Agers are not called to save the world. But Third Agers are called to show the
world the way in which it can be saved.”
I am so
exciting to be a part of being a world changer.
I have no idea where you are reading this but the possibility is unlimited. The internet potential is unlimited. Thanks God for the opportunity you have truly
given me.
Again I say,
it is in the right questions which give us a right perspective. I am living the best years of my life.
So what
questions are you asking?
