I
am retired minister. When I was still
working my work had a way of setting up a weekly agenda but retirement lends
itself to a lot of potential randomness.
Retirement didn’t mean I was done with life it just said I had more
control. And I knew that wasn’t a
potential good thing for me so I set out to build some structure to my day, to
my week not because I had to but because I wanted to keep on making a
difference with my life.
I have
a clear framework to my day. It is the
reason I am able to keep on growing mentally, socially, financially, physically,
spiritually and influentially. All of
those areas are a part of the framework of my life. They give my day great satisfaction and great
productivity.
You
see no matter what stage you are in your life, you need to be striving to make
a difference in yourself and in the world around you. That is the reason why God put you and me
here and it doesn’t stop at retirement. There is so much danger in an
unstructured life. We were not created
to just sit and do nothing, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. There is so much harm that can come to each
area when you stop doing anything. The potential
is you will die. There is also danger
when one area takes all your time and effort.
You then become imbalanced. That again
is where structure and a beneficial framework come in.
Now
understand structure is for you, for your benefit. Don’t see it as an enemy to enjoying your
life but see it as a beneficial friend that helps you enjoy it even more and potentially
longer. It can make a major difference
in helping make your life have meaning and purpose.
