“Don’t use the Bible to box God in.”

A thought by Mark Batterson from his book, Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God (p. 39). The Crown Publishing Group. Kindle Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.) So many do that. Mark says, “I know there are those who believe that God speaks only through Scripture. It’s a well-meaning mistake that’s often perpetrated by those who hold a high view of Scripture, as I do. I certainly believe that the Bible is in a category by itself as the inspired Word of God and that the canon is closed. But we actually undermine Scripture’s authority when we discredit God’s ability to speak to us now in the same ways He did in the pages of the Bible.” He goes on, “When I survey Scripture, I see God showing up in strange places, at strange times, in strange ways. And I don’t think anything has changed. God certainly won’t contradict Himself, but He is still predictably unpredictable!” He really is! Mark them says, “He still turns appointments int

“God is so good at what He does that we take it for granted.”

A thought by Mark Batterson from his book,  Whisper: How to Hear the Voice of God  (p. 19). The Crown Publishing Group. Kindle Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.) Ok, ok, that thought got my attention.   So, what is Mark talking about? Mark says, “You may have no sensation of motion right now, but that is an illusion of miraculous proportions. The reality? You are on a planet that is spinning around its axis at a speed of approximately 1,000 miles per hour. And you don’t even get a little bit dizzy! Plus, planet Earth is speeding through space at approximately 67,000 miles per hour. So even on a day when you feel as if you didn’t get much done, you traveled 1,608,000,000 miles through space!” He then says, “Now let me ask: When was the last time you thanked God for keeping us in orbit? I’m guessing the answer is never. Why? Because God is so good at what He does that we take it for granted. Never once have I knelt and prayed, Lord, I w

“More than you can handle.”

A thought by Craig Groeschel from his book, Divine Direction: 7 Decisions That Will Change Your Life (p. 191). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. (Click on the book title to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.) There are things that we say that sound so good and we hope they are true. Craig says, “Maybe you’ve heard well-meaning people say, ‘God will never give you more than you can handle.’ While this sounds good and it might feel right, nowhere in the Bible does it ever actually say that. I’m almost certain most people are misquoting 1 Corinthians 10:13 when they say this. That verse reads, ‘And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.’ Clearly, we see that God won’t let you be tempted beyond what you can handle. But Scripture never says that God won’t give you more than you can handle.” He goes on, “I’d argue the opposite. God often allows you to experience more than you can handle to teach you to trust and depend on him.” Later he says, “D
