“The most frequent promise in the Bible is ‘I will be with you.’”

A thought by John Ortberg, (2009-05-18) from his book, God Is Closer Than You Think: This Can Be the Greatest Moment of YourLife Because This Moment Is the Place Where You Can Meet God (Kindle Locations 155-156). This thought by John Ortberg hit me as a thought you and I need to have reinforced with what is happening in our world today. John says, “The central promise in the Bible is not ‘I will forgive you,’ although of course that promise is there. It is not the promise of life after death, although we are offered that as well. The most frequent promise in the Bible is ‘I will be with you.’” He goes on, “Before Adam and Eve ever sinned or needed forgiveness, they were promised God’s presence. He would walk with them in the cool of the day. The promise came to Enoch, who ‘walked with God.’ It was made to Noah, to Abraham and Sarah, to Jacob and Joseph and Moses and David a

“We prize the freedom to choose, but we dread the mistakes that can wreck our lives.”

And the answer is that as soon as I surrender my will, God will recalculate my route and welcome me home. If you’re not dead, you’re not done.” He goes on, “Jesus told many stories about people who made wrong choices. One is about a character who has become known as the Prodigal Son. He chooses to leave his home, waste h

“One of the weightiest aspects of human life is I must choose.”

( Click on the title of the book to go to Amazon.com to buy the book.) That is where real freedom comes in and that is a part of God’s will for your life. John says, “One of the weightiest aspects of human life is I must choose.”   He then goes on, “And my choices create my life. My choices create my destiny. I don’t want to miss that!” Later he says, “Maybe you’re a student trying to decide which school to go to or which major to choose. Maybe you’re on the brink of an exciting adventure. Maybe you’ve been frustrated by a lost opportunity, and you wonder, Does God still have another one for me?”   This is important, “Your life is about more than safety. It’s about more than security. It’s about more than manageability. If you’re looking for that stuff, you were born into the wrong species. God has a plan for you. But that
