“One way we glorify God is by exploring and educating ourselves about everything He has created.”

A thought by Mark Batterson (2009-12-09) from his book, Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity (Kindle Location 1411). Random House, Inc.. Kindle Edition.

I love the opportunity to explore.  I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to see what other places are like.  I have lived on both coast and in the South and the North.  I was almost born in a car.  The only state I haven’t been to is Alaska.  I love to explore.

Margaret and I are headed into a new experience.  We are moving from Long Island in New York to Seminole, Florida.  I have already lived in Seminole but I have never lived in my own home.  That for us is a new adventure.  I have already explored Home Depot as a homeowner.  That is a different experience than visiting it as renter.  There is more you can do in your own home.

But the wonder of exploring God’s creating is a way to glorify Him.  Psalm 121.1 & 2 is one of my life verses.  The Message interprets it this way, “I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.”

We have had the privilege to live close to New York City and see the wonders of man.  God has given man so much ability.  But to see the depth and width of the Grand Canyon or to see the Rocky Mountains rise up as you drive in from the prairie or to drive with the top down on your convertible and look out on Big Sur or look at the water fall in Yosemite or watch the Elk come down from the high country of the Rocky Mountain National Park or watch the waves on the Bonzai Pipeline on Oahu or see the Hill County in Texas or the Flint Hills of Kansas you see the wonder and the expanse and glory of the creator.  You then realize that no problem is too big for Him.

But we live in our work world and the front rooms of our homes and are overwhelmed and bored by life.  But if we would just get up and step out and see the wonder of God and His glory in His creation it would change our perspective on life.  And He created all of this for our enjoyment and encouragement but for many it is a waste.

I have chosen to not let what God has created be a waste on me.  The God who created all of that is my strength and my wonder and my excitement.  There is a life filled with His glory and His wonder just outside our homes that is there to be explored and enjoyed.  The glory of God can be experienced through His creation.  He created it for your enjoyment and your encouragement.

Why don’t you start exploring it this Saturday?
